Celebrating Data Privacy Day!
Data Privacy Day is an international effort held annually on 28 January to create awareness about the importance of respecting privacy, safeguarding data and enabling trust. Data Privacy Day spotlights the value of information and how to not only protect your privacy, but take ownership of it.
As a digital rights organization, privacy and protecting personal information are important to The IO Foundation. In recognition of the day, will be screening THE GREAT HACK (2019).
The Great Hack is a 2019 documentary film about the Facebook–Cambridge Analytica data scandal, produced and directed by Jehane Noujaim and Karim Amer.
The documentary focuses on Professor David Carroll of Parsons and The New School, whistle-blower Brittany Kaiser formerly of Cambridge Analytica, and investigative British journalist Carole Cadwalladr. Their stories interweave to expose the work of Cambridge Analytica in the politics of various countries, including the United Kingdom’s Brexit campaign and the 2016 U.S. elections.
